The book aims at a theoretical redefinition of aesthetics as a philosophical discipline, putting at its centre the theme of perception, in other words of "aisthesis". Exceeding the opposition and the option between a phenomenological and a hermeneutical perspective of research, the question of quality of perception is considered the generative nucleus of aesthetic attitude and is dealt moving from a content analysis of aesthetic propositions and in particular of the semantic and meta-semantic differences between epistemic and aesthetic judgments. On this basis, it is faced the issue of the constitution of the aesthetic objects in the field of experience. Consequently, discussing the positions of Frank Sibley and Jerrold Levinson, it is analysed the character of "supervenience" of aesthetic properties. The first part of book is concluded, therefore, addressing the classical theme of beauty with crucial references to Plato, Kant, Leopardi, Benjamin and Wittgenstein. The second part of the book is devoted to the question of the relationship between aesthetics and art. In this contest it is developed so the concept of "artistic function" as an intentional conjunction between the technical and the aesthetic aspect of an artifact. Then, it is considered the "symbolic force" of art and, therefore, the idea of "units of sense" as an active connection of the syntactic and the semantic dimensions of an artwork. Conclusively, it is addressed the issue of "mimetic bond" as inherent to the constitution of artistic facts.
