La costruzione narrativa dell'identità europea. Storie e significati di Europa “dal basso”.

La tesi indaga il processo di costruzione sociale dell'identità europea attraverso la condivisione di narrazioni e significati di Europa condivisi dagli europei nelle loro pratiche sociali quotidiane. Attraverso l'analisi dell'origine di tali narrazioni e delle reti di relazioni sociali nelle quali esse circolano, vengono individuate le determinanti sociali e i processi che sono alla base della costruzione di diversi "tipi" di identità europea. The thesis aims at analyzing the intersection between the local and the supranational dimensions in the conceptualization of Europe and their influence in the construction of the European identity. It assumes that the meanings attributed to Europe are shaped by the social context and interactions: the European identity is socially constructed in everyday life. The empirical part of the work shows the different meanings and narratives of Europe shared by people in two diverse local contexts and how they contribute to the construction of different “types” of European identity. The active involvement of the Tuscan region in the European dimension has provided an interesting sample of “common” European citizens, and thus, their networks of social relations and interactions have been analyzed.
