This introduction to the book aims at framing the works of Maurizio Grassini (presented in the first part of the book) within the literature of applied multisectoral modelling and to highlight their contribution to the field. This approach is applied also to introduce the papers of the second part of the volume which are related to the research issues presented in the first part.
