Perspectives for designing responsibly the industrial heritage

This introductory note stresses research findings on industrial archeology that have led to a sensitive way of thinking that can be used to a good design and its effects on history, aesthetics and places. Within the book "The making and remaking of dismissed industrial sites" is well underlined critically the preservation and conservation but also the reused of industrial heritage. Other values and meanings are described considering “context” as sense of history and “landscape” as process that should drive to a sustainable future transformation. And all of this is taking into account the author’s definition on “making” and “remaking” of a context for preserving heritage value and design sensibility. It is also raised the question on how change of a places could positively influence innovative large development schemes. There is a series of factors including the urban form which creates a “sense of place” and therefore a new type of place by employing certain design principles.
