Today, Dmanisi is one of the world’s most important archeological sites for the study of mankind’s ancient origins. Its extraordinary findings provide a massive empirical basis for scientific investigation into the Pleistocene’s continental ecosystem and their human inhabitants. The Georgian National Museum and its Director, David Lortkipanidze, are coordinators of an international research group composed of georgian scientists working alongside academics from France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. Italy’s participation in this group, also made possible by a grant by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, is headed by Prof. Lorenzo Rook, Earth Sciences Department, University of Florence.
