Herat Strategic Masterplan A Vision for the Future

The book illustrates the new strategic Masterplan of Herat city (the first since1967). The plan has been developed by the authors within the framework of a cooperation project and was officially adopted by the Afghan authorities. The book consists of two parts: analysis and plan. The analytical part contains updated information on Herat city about all aspects of interest for the plan (environment, land use, economics, infrastructures and utilities etc.); the results of original surveys on household and housing conditionsare also described here .The second part of the book starts evaluating future demographic trends (on the basis of a demographic model) and continues with development plans both for the city and for the broader metropolitan area. Detailed maps accompany the plan.
