The territory in which the Grotta dei Massacci is located can be considered an area of Roman graves, that was reserved for wealthy and important families of the nearby Trebula Mutuesca (the current area of Monteleone Sabino). These graves are marked by greatness and wealth. This location between Rome and Rieti is not random, being close to Via Salaria, the main Roman route, along the river Tiber, across the Sabine territory. In the early eighteenth century, the mausoleum was incorporated into the Osteria Nuova, a residential and commercial building. As a result the tomb was affected by periods of neglect and improper use, and was declared national monument in 1916. Since the beginning of the Nineties of the XXth century, a reuse still in course of completion was started; it aimed at both the enhancement of the remains of the archaic mausoleum making a museum, and in the building of the eighteenth-century to obtain spaces in which to join cultural purposes and activities for local economic development.

Abstract
Since the beginning of the Nineties of the XXth century, a reuse still in course of completion was started; it aimed at both the enhancement of the remains of the archaic mausoleum making a museum, and in the building of the eighteenth-century to obtain spaces in which to join cultural purposes and activities for local economic development.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
