The updated and revised publication in the second edition of the volume analyses some of the key linguistic features of periodical news in the English press (1620-1665). As with the first edition (2012), the chapter examines, first, the representation of authorial presence and identity and, secondly, the role of heads and marginalia in the presentation of periodical news. Both these research questions are analysed with the aid of two computerized news corpora: the Florence Early English Newspapers Corpus (FEEN) and the Lancaster Newsbooks Corpus (LNC).
