Over the last years, there has been a growing interest towards the role of social media as means to support civic and political participation of young people. However, stud- ies on the topic from an educational perspective are still rare. This paper presents the results of an educational action research on civic engagement and new digital media that was carried out in a high school within the European project e-Engagement against Violence (Daphne Programme 2012-2014), with the aim to promote critical understanding and active use of media in the political arena. The analysis of websites of political parties and the Arab Spring case provided the opportunity to engage students with these themes involving them in an activity of media and citizenship education.
