The integration of complex functions within commercial wireless transceivers has determined the development of compact and low-cost units for both base stations (BSs) and mobile agents. This chapter deals with the exploitation of smart antennas (SAs) in direction- of-arrival (DOA) estimation techniques when applied to indoor positioning scenarios. The contents refer to DOA positioning techniques, which rely only on the measurement of signal strength, thus requiring very simple control electronics and processing units.

Abstract

The integration of complex functions within commercial wireless transceivers has determined the development of compact and low-cost units for both base stations (BSs) and mobile agents. This chapter deals with the exploitation of smart antennas (SAs) in direction- of-arrival (DOA) estimation techniques when applied to indoor positioning scenarios. The contents refer to DOA positioning techniques, which rely only on the measurement of signal strength, thus requiring very simple control electronics and processing units.
