We describe recent studies for the flood risk mapping in the city of Florence, addressing both the monetizable and invaluable artistic assets of the city. The economic estimates from such studies are used to introduce a strategy for the risk reduction based on an innovative use of financial instruments similar to the CAT-bonds.
