The article analyses some of the transformations intervened in contemporary families, since the aftermath of WW2, looking in particular at the relationship between family life and politics. The interpretation put forward is that in contemporary Italy the family continue to be addressed as a privileged instrument of political and ideological confrontation, with little attention paid to actual social transformations and their consequences in terms of welfare needs.
