This review aims to outline the literature regarding relationships between personality traits – particularly neuroticism – and job performance on the one hand, and health outcomes on the other. The first part of the review is focused on the relation between personality traits and job performance, presenting studies produced between the mid- 1950s and the present. The second part of the review focuses on the relation between personality traits and health outcomes, presenting studies in three distinct areas of research following the bio-psycho-social model: objective well-being, as absence of physical disease or psychopathology; hedonic well-being; and eudaimonic well-being. This review offers a framework of reference, presenting the evolution and current state of research on the relationships between personality traits (particularly neuroticism) and job performance and health outcomes, suggesting new perspectives for research and intervention.
