The idea to conceptualize the source of evidence and to outline the transition from generic evidence to digital/Electronic Evidence establishing standards and methods to assure authenticity, has been necessary due to the the introduction and the extensive use of ICT. There is a lack of common framemework towards the regulation of electronic evidence across Europe, especially in the field of criminal law, and the preparation of standardized procedures common to all countries of the Union for the collection, use and exchange of electronic evidence is requested and is the basis of this paper. In particular, the work carried out and presented in this paper allows to acquire a common terminology in the electronic evidence domain.
