Ernesto Nathan e l’Esposizione internazionale di San Francisco del 1915

Il saggio descrive la partecipazione italiana alla Panama-Pacific International Exposition che si tenne a San Francisco nel 1915, l'anno in cui Salvatore Ferragamo emigrò negli Stati Uniti. In particolare si sofferma sul ruolo del commissario italiano dell'Expo, Ernesto Nathan, ex sindaco di Roma, ex gran maestro del Grande Oriente d'Italia e figura eminente della politica italiana. Attraverso la relazione scritta da Nathan sulla sua esperienza come commissario dell'Expo si ricava un'interessante descrizione della comunità di emigrati italiani in california e acute riflessioni sulla società america di quegli anni. The essay describes the Italian participation in the Panama-Pacific International Exposition that was held in San Francisco in 1915, the year in which Salvatore Ferragamo emigrated to the United States. In particular, it focuses on the role of the Italian commissioner of the Expo, Ernesto Nathan, former mayor of Rome, former Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Italy and an eminent figure in Italian politics. Through the report written by Nathan on his experience as an expo commissioner, we get an interesting description of the community of Italian emigrants in California and witty reflections on the American society of the early twentieth century.
