I nostri valori rivisti is the updated rereading of a work – Our endures values – that has greatly influenced the discussion on the present and on the future of the library and librarians. The author critically discusses issues from some considered innovative and revolutionary, issues that, instead, Gorman deals with skepticism, highlighting its inconsistency, contradictions and deceptive, illusory character. Too many people feel authorized to hypothesize new models of the library without their competence and authority and, above all, without knowing their thousand-year history, the story of a growing organism (as the fifth law of the librarianship of Ranganathan recites), of a living organism and therefore contextualized in the culture of the time. I nostri valori rivisti è la rilettura attualizzata di un’opera – I nostri valori – che tanto ha influito nella discussione sul presente e sul futuro della biblioteca e dei bibliotecari. L’autore discute criticamente tematiche da alcuni considerate innovative e rivoluzionarie, questioni che, invece, Gorman tratta con scetticismo, evidenziandone l’inconsistenza, le contraddizioni e il carattere ingannevole, illusorio. Troppe persone si sentono autorizzati a ipotizzare nuovi modelli di biblioteca senza che ne abbiano competenza e autorevolezza e, soprattutto, senza che conoscano la sua millenaria storia, la storia di un growing organism (come recita la quinta legge della biblioteconomia di Ranganathan), di un organismo vivente e pertanto contestualizzato nella cultura del tempo.
