Il connettivo aber in Traumnovelle di Arthur Schnitzler, una novella tra vita e realtà altra

The essay analyses the uses of the German connective aber on the base of the attestations contained in a narrative work that can be defined as autobiographical for several reasons: Traumnovelle by Arthur Schnitzler (1926). The literary text is used as “linguistic material” for the analysis of the syntactic and semantic functions of the chosen connective with the aim of enriching existing grammatical descriptions. Although the aim is strictly a linguistic one, the analysis of aber will also show how this word in the text often signals the passage from “first reality” to another reality, intended as the representation of life under several forms (artistic, dreamlike and fairytale dimensions).
