The Challenge of Sustainability in the Construction and Managing of Personal Projects for a Decent Work and a Decent Life: Psychological Contributions

In the postmodern era characterized by rapid technological transformations and changes in the world of work, people encounter instability as well as numerous and continuous transitions. In this context, the construction of the self in relation to personal and societal sustainability is vital. The present chapter delineates the challenge of sustainability in the construction and management of the personal project for decent work and decent life. The chapter deals thus with the following questions: “how does one best advance reflection on sustainability for decent work and decent lives? How to move forward?” This reflection is anchored in the main theories of vocational psychology and career counseling, while also seeking to advance them through inquiry about sustainability. The chapter also presents a case study to clarify how a career and life intervention can facilitate the construction and management of a sustainable personal project for decent work and life.
