This paper aims at demonstrating that the conceptual tools of the metaoperational grammar (Henri Adamczewski) permit explain the functioning of the Spanish operators claro, desde luego and por supuesto. These operators are the markers of an operation of sentence-building that targets the predicative link. Our assumption is that the speaker, when using claro, desde luego and por supuesto, presents himself as a guarantor of the predicative link that has just been presented as an object of discourse. The difference between these metaoperators would lie in the status of the commitment: for claro in phase I, in phase II for desde luego and por supuesto. With por supuesto also the commitment is presented as superfluous.
