On the basis of empirical research driven on spontaneous and acted speech, the paper sketches the main structural differences of the two language varieties for what regards information structure strategies and gesticulation. Contrary to spontaneous speech, acted speech avoids information structure and parses the text in brief utterances and shows reduced gesticulation. Acted speech also records a tendency to the reduction of Gesture Units to single Gesture Phrases
