The green chemistry and the circular economy focused all actions on “closing the loop of product lifecycles” through recycling and reuse, making production processes more sustainable and competitive, with benefits to both the environment and the economy. In this communication, we describe an example of an integrated approach of green chemistry and circular economy for the valorization of Olea europaea by-products and wastes deriving from the processing of olive oil. A sustainable procedure of extraction was applied to recover enriched fractions of bioactive phenolic compounds, e.g. hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein. The antiproliferative effect on colon cancer cells and the antimicrobial activity of these fractions were tested in our laboratories in order to evaluate their reuse and potential industrial applications.
