Nuove terrecotte di Agnolo di Polo de' Vetri

Il saggio è incentrato sullo studio di una nuova opera, un busto in terracotta di Cristo Salvatore, allo scultore Agnolo di Polo de' Vetri, allievo a Firenze di Andrea Verrocchio. La scultura, inedita, è conservata a Villa La Quiete, complesso che fa parte del Sistema Museale dell'Ateneo di Firenze. Insieme ad altre due opere, una Madonna con Bambino in stucco della bottega di Lorenzo Ghiberti e un'altra in terracotta di medesimo soggetto riferita alla cerchia di Donatello, è stata restaurata ed esposta in una mostra a Villa La Quiete nel maggio 2019. Il saggio, oltre ad offrire la nuova attribuzione contestualizza la scultura all'interno della ricca produzione delle botteghe fiorentine del Rinascimento, confrontandola con altre opere di Agnolo di Polo, e la collega al complesso delle opere del monastero domenicano fiorentino di San Jacopo di Ripoli. The essay focuses on the study of a new work of art, a terracotta bust of Cristo Salvatore, here referred to the sculptor Agnolo di Polo de' Vetri, a Andrea Verrocchio pupil. The sculpture, unpublished, is preserved in Villa La Quiete, a complex that is part of the Museum System of the University of Florence. Along with two other works, a Madonna with Child in Stucco by Lorenzo Ghiberti and another terracotta of the same subject referring to Donatello's circle, was restored and exhibited in an exhibition at Villa La Quiete in May 2019. The essay, in addition to offering the new attribution contextualizes the sculpture within the rich production of the Florentine art workshops of the Renaissance, comparing it with other works of Agnolo di Polo, and connects it to the complex of the works of the Florentine Monastery of San Jacopo in Ripoli.
