The debate on “Eastern European pre-Renaissance” and “Orthodox Slavic revival” in the light of recent research At the IV International Congress of Slavists which took place in Moscow (1958) D. S. Lichačëv presented a report on the Second South Slavic influence in Rus’ where he explained his idea of “Eastern European pre-Renaissance”. Lichačëv’s thesis received some critical comments by the young R. Picchio who at the time was developing the idea of “Orthodox Slavic revival (rinascita)”. The paper aims to revisit this debate taking account of subsequent developments in their research and in the light of the most recent studies.
