R. Nahtigal, Proglas k svetemu еvangeliju (1943). A Proposal for the Textual Reconstruction Throughout the 20th century, some important studies on the Prologue to the Gospels (Proglas) were conducted. The essay written by R. Nahtigal (1943) offers an edition of the short poem in accordance with the various branches of the Eastern Slavic and Serbian manuscript tradition, alongside an accurate reconstruction based on its verse structure, accompanied by a broad and comprehensive philological commentary. At the end, there is a glossary of the reconstructed text which is of particular value. Comparison with subsequent studies and textual analysis highlights the importance of Nahtigal's research around reconstruction of the Prologue, which is considered to be the first poetic composition in Church Slavonic language.
