Aim of this paper is to show how the words 'agon', agency and 'Rekordselbstquäler' are intimately intertwined and represent an original way of dealing with asceticism. The tie that binds these words together can be found in Peter Sloterdijk, one of the few contemporary philosophers to have worked on the idea of asceticism.
