This chapter reports the conclusions of a consensus expert conference on the basic principles and nomenclature of renal replacement therapy currently used to manage acute kidney injury. This multidisciplinary conference discussed common definitions, components, techniques, and operations of the machines and platforms used to deliver extracorporeal therapies, using a "machine-centric" rather than a "patient-centric" approach. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machines, procedures, and phases of treatment, CRRT disposables, volume management, and fluid balance are described. In addition, the chapter describes recent development in other extracorporeal therapies, including therapeutic plasma exchange, multiple organ support therapy, and blood purification in sepsis.

Abstract
This chapter reports the conclusions of a consensus expert conference on the basic principles and nomenclature of renal replacement therapy currently used to manage acute kidney injury. This multidisciplinary conference discussed common definitions, components, techniques, and operations of the machines and platforms used to deliver extracorporeal therapies, using a "machine-centric" rather than a "patient-centric" approach. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machines, procedures, and phases of treatment, CRRT disposables, volume management, and fluid balance are described. In addition, the chapter describes recent development in other extracorporeal therapies, including therapeutic plasma exchange, multiple organ support therapy, and blood purification in sepsis.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
