INDAGINI RADAR DELLE PARETI DELLA SALA GRANDE

This chapter reports the vicissitudes of the search through technological instruments of the lost painting of Leonardo da Vinci la Battaglia di Anghiari (The Battle of Anghiari), that some scholars argued to be hidden behind the walls painted by Giorgio Vasari in the Sala Grande (The grand hall). In 1976 Travers Newton leaded a team that used unsuc- cessfully ultrasonic equipment and thermocameras. Since 2002, Maurizio Seracini managed a second search based on penetrating radar. Finally, in 2011 five holes were performed in one of the walls painted by Giorgio Vasari, but not evidences were obtained.
