Abstract

The contribution presents the path for the construction of the Ombrone River Contract promoted by a small local committee for the enhancement of the territory. Born from a Nimby question and following two flood events, the Committee finds its scope in a long-term objective that embraces a territorial scale of vast area: the (re)construction of a disrupted local community. The participatory process, activated to promote the formation of the Om- brone River Contract, is elaborated in continuity with a path of awareness- raising path related to the territory, the nature of the problems, as well as the potential deriving from the overcoming of the localisms to form the riparian community of the Ombrone. The definition of a broad and structured vision for the future, which can be implemented through local pilot projects, has represented the background for the creation of a dense network of collaborations and synergies. This methodology, together with the Committee approach based on dia- logue, comparison and institutional mediation, have led to channeling attention, interest and also operational actions on the topic of the Ombrone River Contract, which now enters the operational phase and requires to work for the continuity and transferability of the experience.
