Learning is a process of active engagement that can involve the development of deeper knowledge and understanding and can increase capacity of comprehension. Effective alternative teaching and training can lead to desire for deepening of skills and can put the scenarios to both theoretical and practice approaches. In this way, new opportunities of teaching can examine new issues and reflections on architectural education. The aim of this paper is to debate on how specific design workshops can explore individual motivations for participation, discovering new skills and relevant experiences on urban and architectural design. It is also stressed how alternative teaching can help to achieve interdisciplinary and cross-cultural efforts and an easier approach to the profession. Moreover, is asked how alternative architectural education can bring a new sustainable thinking in order to improve design methodologies to bring closer the global design education to local design approaches.
