The essay explores the fields of intersection between pedagogy and medicine in order to identify the tasks of a possible medical pedagogy. After outlining the profiles of the professional family of care and health workers, it concentrates in particular on formal contributions to the initial and in-service training of doctors. Above all, thanks to Paolo Federighi’s contribution on embedded education, the article focuses attention on the informal contexts of training in health and care organizations from an integrated point of view. This concept is underlined as the most innovative place of dialogue between pedagogy and medicine. The embedded logic is then extended to healthcare, social and community policies through critical analysis of an example from the USA.
