Genres of Ethiopian-Eritrean Christian Literature with a Focus on Hagiography

Il saggio esamina l'eredità letteraria etiopica cristiana in lingua ge'ez ponendo l'accendo sulla produzione letteraria indigena e in particolare sull'agiografia, evidenziandone la complessità e la maniera in cui i diversi approcci disciplinari (filologia, storia, antropologia, studi sul manoscritto) contribuiscono a diversificare e arricchire le informazioni storiche e culturali che possono trarsi dal suo studio. The essay surveys the Christian literary heritage with greater emphasis on original Gǝʿǝz compositions, before focusing on hagiography as a case study in the complexity of one literary genre and the ways in which the approaches of different disciplines (philology, history, anthropology, manuscript studies) have come together to diversify and enrich the insights to be drawn from it.
