How can a road contribute to recognizing, activating culturally, socially and economically, and disseminating the country’s landscape values? In a context marked by the climate crisis and the profound changes in terms of mobility systems, the document “Roads, landscape and tourism. Bases for the definition of a model for Catalonia” raises the opportunity that the landscape stops being perceived from inside a vehicle only like a mere scenery or scenic bottom and becomes the protagonist of new travel experiences and relationship with the territory. The document aims to enrich the view of the landscape through travel, while strengthening the heritage and cultural dimension of the landscape and the value of the roads. For this reason, ways have been explored to turn roads into tools for raising awareness and disseminating landscape culture, learning from the most innovative initiatives on a Catalan and international scale, in order to define a model of the relationship between the landscape, roads and tourism for Catalonia. The work proposes a set of criteria to identify the roads or sections of roads that best favor the relationship with the landscape, taking into account the existing road network, and the richness and diversity of the country's landscape.
