Our present research concerns the assessment of microclimatic and lighting existing conditions by means of experimental measurement campaigns and dynamic simulation in an existing historical university library. The proposed methodological approach can be a useful tool for the evaluation of the evaluation of the possibility and feasibility of retrofitting and refurbishment operations, focusing on for visual tasks, ergonomics and well-being, and guarantying the preventive conservation and protection of heritage books but also the historical building. The case study is very particular, because it concerns a Florentine historical monastery now a university library.
