Living Environmental and Cultural Value in Small Historic Villages. Revitalization and Heritage Interpretation for “Campo Tizzoro” in the Pistoia Mountain

Historic assets and local identity are a key step in developing sustainable planning process, bringing more life back to small historic villages, recognizing and promoting place identity but also encouraging more tourism and developing local economy. Specifically, capturing history and environmental resources must be a fundamental part of how changing small historic towns and villages, settlements, neighbourhoods, and old buildings should be managed. This contribution reflects on the San Marcello-Piteglio Municipality located in the Pistoia Mountain in Tuscany made up of many small historic villages. Preservation and revitalization are argued herein that must be the main thread running throughout the entire heritage local planning and redevelopment process. The threats to these heritage assets and local efforts have been examined for possible upgrades of urban quality, innovation, tourism, and economic profits.
