This chapter is devoted to mammal paleoecology in the Buia-Dandiero Basin, with particular focus on the suid fossil record from the site. In the Pleistocene, suid species had a wider latitudinal and longitudinal distribution than at present and were adapted to diverse habitats and diets. Owing to their marked tolerance to cyclical paleoenvironmental changes and their rapid evolutionary changes, Pleistocene suids serve as important biochronological and paleoecological markers within mammalian ecosystems
