PROSPETTIVE FUTURE PER LA COLTIVAZIONE DELLA DOUGLASIA (PSEUDOTSUGA MENZIESII VAR. MENZIESII) IN TOSCANA

At the end of the Do.Na.To. (Douglasiete Naturali Toscane) project the Authors underlined some important aspects related to Douglas-fir cultivation in Tuscany (Italy) and about its high potentialities regarding wood production, and mitigation/adaptation to climate change. The set-up of (i) demonstration areas for silvicultural treatment, (ii) monitoring network for seed dissemination and seed germination, as well as (iii) monitoring natural regeneration contributed to acquire and spread knowledge on this species in our Country. Finally, Douglas-fir cubic volume data for the oldest populations in Italy had highlighted yield and growth values never recorded before and the possibility to obtain particularly-large lumber-products appreciated for bio-economy transition. With respect to the expectations, the project objectives have largely been fulfilled.
