Abstract
The term “bioeconomy” results from placing the Greek word “bios”, life, before “economy”, formed in turn by terms that mean home and rule and thus readable as the set of rules governing the common home management. Con-sequently, it's possible to understand bio-economy as the set of reproduction rules of our common home, territory, understood as a living organism. Terri-tory as a living being is therefore, at the same time, a metaphor and a reality built over time by societies that have alternated and have been able to wisely balance ecosystem’s reasons and human needs. In this framework, human settlement represents therefore the coevolutionary product of intertwining the logic of nature and culture (understood in a broad sense), developed over the longue durée of history. Once framed territory and its recent evolution, which has turned its back on the wise coevolution between nature and cul-ture, the essay will address five relevant issues to assess whether the Bioe-conomy Strategy helps or not to solve the problems of current settlement un-sustainability.
