Money, convertibility, and modernity: A new modern picture of social ties in agriculture

To understand what happened to art in the 19th century, it is useful to think about what money is and how it is used; this serves as a parallel story. How is money generated and what is its nature? Di erent scholars and di erent disciplines have different explanations. It is a sort of cleavage dividing groups of di erent economists into Keynesian, Austrian, Kaleckian, orthodox, etc., to mention a few. Sociologists have also di erent explanations of what money is, depending on their theoretical !amework: it is understood as a political struggle, as a social pattern, as a relationship of trust, an utopian vision or an intimate relationship. These complex and di erent interpretations of the nature of money are not mirrored in daily life. Every day, people use money without posing particular questions over its nature or how it should be used. It seems that everyone uses money in a similar way, so why should it be questioned or considered a problem?
