The chapter focuses on Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE), an applied research tool and a learning process that assesses designed space after it has been inhabited. Moving from an analysis of the complexity of the design process and a theoretical framework on habitation, the chapter discusses the main approaches to POE, their current evolutions, and how such practice can be useful to improve wellbeing in designed spaces, including healing gardens and other therapeutic spaces.

Abstract

The chapter focuses on Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE), an applied research tool and a learning process that assesses designed space after it has been inhabited. Moving from an analysis of the complexity of the design process and a theoretical framework on habitation, the chapter discusses the main approaches to POE, their current evolutions, and how such practice can be useful to improve wellbeing in designed spaces, including healing gardens and other therapeutic spaces.
