This article is focused on the analysis of the activity of Pietro Antoniutti, Friulian priest whose career was entirely devoted to the realization of Italian versions of eighteenth-century British bestsellers. Thanks to the analysis of his principal works, we will be able to reflect on the importance given by Antoniutti to the act of translating. At the turn of the century, his writing became a tool for the circulation of useful ideas and reflections that could have been also apply at the critical situation of the Republic of Venice.
