This paper shows that before the editio princeps (1596) Phaedrus’ Fables exerted a much wider direct influence on later literature than is commonly thought, and that among Phaedrus’ readers were the author of the Pseudo-Senecan Octavia, Tacitus, Paulinus of Nola, Ariosto, and Politian.

Abstract
