The aim of this chapter is to define the "Waterfront Urban Space" (WUS) and its protection from the most dramatic climate-related urban risks. The chapter shows how evolving vulnerability along sensitive urban waterfronts should be faced properly throught integrative planning and resilience design solutions. It deals with identyfing new urban strategies for flood protection that should be developed to respond to the consequences of climate change. In terms of sustainable waterfront regeneration, the adopted protection systems can create attractive urban environments and in accortance to the character of place. The methodology adopted is to analyse comparative defence strategies and design solutions through case studies in Europe an USA to explore urban scenarios at the various scales of Intervention (large scale.city / medium scale-district / small scale-site level). Finally, waterfront management with the use of appropriate engineering techniques can produce an easy accessibility, protection and urban safety.
