This works aims at shedding light on the deterministic vision about the benefits of technological innovation processes in industrialized countries by entrenching it with a trend that has permeated the organization, management and functioning of contemporary healthcare systems, that is the commodification. Such a vision refers to a naive perspective of medical epistemology and medical practice, and reinforce the belief that patient’s body works as a machine in the Cartesian manner, and the disease is not but a failure that can be repaired mechanically. The key chosen to reflect on this relationship in a critical perspective is that offered by the notion of homo medicus, which will be recalibrated in a “digital” fashion. This allows to assess the weight of the transformations resulting from the diffusion of health services mediated by information and communication technologies, paying attention to the relationships of meaning that its use establishes with respect to trends in the commodification of health.
