The articles, drawing on the bioregional paradigm, and especially on the "up to date" urban bioregion concept, explores the needed changes to be adopted in the spatial planning approach at the local level in order to overcome the shortcoming derived by a "monadic" municipal approach to spatial planning. Drawing on the Puglia Region Regional Landscape Plan implementation the article claims for a better coordination of the planning tools and procedures between the various public agencies where each problem area has to be tackled at the proper scale according a self-reliance principle.
