The present research focuses on a set of Latin curse tablets from Africa and aims at examining phenomena of Latin-Greek graphic interference in light of the wider sociolinguistic question concerning the motivations behind the borrowing of a writing. It will be proposed that, in order to explain Latin-Greek graphic interference in a multilingual setting such as Africa, not only the possible bilingualism of the sorcerer, but also the peculiarities of the magical practice must be taken into account.
