Ricostruzione dei frammenti della statua di Apollo: un approccio multidisciplinare

In 2019 the Parco archeologico del Colosseo launched an ambitious multidisciplinary project, aimed at the recon-struction of the statue of Apollo Palatinus. The starting point were the numerous marble fragments, especially of drapery, but also including a part of the face and part of the right foot, found during the excavations conducted by Gianfilippo Carettoni between 1959 and 1961 in the lower terrace of the House of Augustus on the Palatine. The area of origin, the larger than life size, the high formal quality of the head and what remains of the hair and physiognomy have led in the past to hypothesize a possible relevance of the fragments to the cult statue of the Temple of Apollo, or to a another statue depicting Apollo exhibited in the Palatine sanctuary. The project intends to re-examine the complex issue of the reconstruction and identification of the original statue or statues, with an innovative multidisciplinary method.
