The measures against foreign Jews residing in Italy were among the first introduced by the fascist regime in September 1938. Total expulsion from the country was not completed subsequently only due to the material difficulties of finding visas and host countries. From 1940, when Italy entered the war, thousands of foreign Jews were arrested and subjected to internment measures in camps and house arrest facilities. Through a detailed reconstruction of the fate of two groups (an engaged couple from Vilnus and a family of Greek origin) who were interned in Italy in the 1930s, we can analyze the lines of continuity between the initial measures and subsequent legislation, passed in the autumn of 1943, with the Nazi occupation and the creation of the ISR, which enacted arrests and deportations.

Abstract
The measures against foreign Jews residing in Italy were among the first introduced by the fascist regime in September 1938. Total expulsion from the country was not completed subsequently only due to the material difficulties of finding visas and host countries. From 1940, when Italy entered the war, thousands of foreign Jews were arrested and subjected to internment measures in camps and house arrest facilities. Through a detailed reconstruction of the fate of two groups (an engaged couple from Vilnus and a family of Greek origin) who were interned in Italy in the 1930s, we can analyze the lines of continuity between the initial measures and subsequent legislation, passed in the autumn of 1943, with the Nazi occupation and the creation of the ISR, which enacted arrests and deportations.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
