Mapping the European Franciscan Observance: an innovative and international research experience

The F-ATLAS project is an interesting example of innovation and internationalisation of research through the collaborative work of several teams from different European countries (Italy, Portugal, Spain) who have developed a shared Web Map. Based on the expertise of each team involved in the project, a database has been developed that has allowed us to catalogue more than 900 Franciscan convents with the most relevant historical and patrimonial information. The assignment of geographical coordinates to each of these convents has allowed its visualisation through GIS and the project’s Web Map, accessible from the website. This viewer of digital cartographies constitutes one of the main research results of the project but also a novel tool for the transfer, dissemination, and internationalisation of our work.
