La Filosofia di Andy Warhol and the Turmoil of Art in Italy, 1983

The essay is based on the reconstruction of the history of the publication of the first Italian edition of "The Philosophy of Andy Warhol", which was released by the publisher Costa & Nolan in 1983. The book was part of a collection edited by Germano Celant. Through an extensive archival research and a thorough survey of the sources published at that time, ranging from scholarly art magazines to fashion magazines and popular newspapers, the article explores the reception of the book within the broader, multifaceted reception of the figure and the art of Andy Warhol in Italy. Dating back to the mid-1960s, a huge critical discussion surrounded the American artist, evolving and changing through time according to the different ways the artist and his practice were introduced year by year. In reconstructing the most important phases in this process, special attention has been paid to the analysis of the presentation of the artist's public persona and the impact that Warhol's films had in shaping the reception of his art.
