The paper aims to discuss some theoretical concepts not yet used in Slavic paleography in order to approach comprehensively the question of classification of Cyrillic Writing Types. It tries to develop a consequent system for describing the various styles of Cyrillic writing based both on systematic morphological analysis of the writing and on functional properties of its social use. An attempt to develop an adequate terminology for describing facts and phenomena is done. Finally, a short outline of the history and development of Cyrillic writing in X–XV centuries concretely applies the above-mentioned classification method.
